The European Social Forum on Migration

FSEM2

From 18 to 20 March 2021 was held the first European Social Forum on Migration in Europe by videoconference. This forum aimed at federating social movements at the European level.

This event shares the same objectives advocated by the Migration Alliance, such as the construction and dissemination of common analyses on migration policies in Europe, as well as the discussion and implementation of alternative migration policies in the framework of an alliance between communities and civil society.

During this forum, the Alliance Migrations organized a session "local authorities-civil society: towards a co-construction of local policies in favor of exiled persons" in the presence of the 5 pilot cities of the label project, animated by the 5 volunteers on mission since October 2020 in the said territories.

These volunteers allow a fair highlighting of the already existing inspiring practices of the territories in a perspective of capitalization, exchanges between the territories but also advocacy to plead for an alternative governance of migration at the national, European and international levels.

To this end, five volunteers were sent to five pilot territories:

  • Barcelona
  • Grenoble
  • Lisbon
  • Montreuil
  • Palermo

From this mission were born :

Five panoramas of these territories and their already existing civil society-local authority alliances.
A common base for their work around three pillars:

  • Promoting a vision of migration based on interculturality for the recognition of the rights of all
  • Promoting universal access to rights: a work of transversal and perennial collaboration between local actors
  • To make possible the political participation and the exercise of citizenship of foreign residents
